The Distraction-Free Education Act

Dear Families,

Beginning January 6, Dalton Public Schools will implement the statewide Distraction-Free Education Act, which means students in grades K–8 will not be permitted to use personal cell phones, smart watches, or other personal electronic devices during the school day. This important change helps us create classrooms that are more focused, engaging, and supportive for every learner.

Because we do not have a way to store personal devices at school, we kindly ask that all devices remain at home or in the student’s book bag during the school day.

If you need to reach your child, our team is always here to help! Families can contact the school through:
• 📞 The front office
• 💬 The Dalton Public Schools app
• ✉️ Teacher or nurse phone calls or emails

Thank you for partnering with us to maintain a safe, organized, and distraction-free learning environment for all students. We truly appreciate your support as we work together to help every child thrive!

Food City School Bucks Challenge

Food City is giving away $800,000 to schools for classrooms, equipment, and supplies. Every time you shop with your linked ValuCard, our school earns points — and the more points we collect, the bigger share of the cash we receive!

👉 Linking is quick and easy: just log into your Food City account at https://www.foodcity.com/schoolbucks, choose City Park  as your school, and you’re set for the year.

Don’t have an online account? No worries — check out the helpful video at the link above!

PAWliday Dress Up Day Update!

🎄✨ PAWliday Dress-Up Day Update! ✨🎄

City Park families, we have some breaking, exciting news to share!

Our amazing PAWS team has decided to add PAWjamas as an official dress-up option for next Friday, December 19! 🐾🎉

Why the change? Our fourth graders have been hard at work writing persuasive letters to Ms. Rhyne as practice for their upcoming ELA Unit 3 Project-Based Inquiry Task with Savvas — and let’s just say their reasons were so purrrrrsuasive that Ms. Rhyne simply couldn’t resist! 😺💛

So whether your child wants to dress festive, cozy, or in their favorite PAWjamas, we can’t wait to see all the holiday spirit across campus next Friday!

Stay tuned for the flyer below, and get ready for a fun and spirited day at City Park! 🎁❄️🐾

Science Family Night

Thursday, December 18, promises to be an exciting day at the 405! At 5:30 PM, our Glee Club will inaugurate our Family Science Night with a delightful holiday concert and sing along.

Kindergarten and1st Grade will perform Jingle Bells, 2nd and 3rd Grades will perform Elfie Selfie.  All of our grades will sing Feliz Navidad together--we encourage everyone to attend this interactive show!

Following the concert, PAWS will provide hot chocolate and sweet treats in our cafeteria. Families will have the opportunity to visit classrooms and engage in enjoyable, hands-on science activities.

To prepare our students for this engaging Science Night, PAWS will host two science-themed assemblies during the school day on Thursday, presented by The Science Zone.

Our K-2 grades will participate in the assembly at 9:00 AM, and our grades 3-5 will attend at 10:00 AM.

This assembly is made possible through our media center, funded by proceeds from our recent Scholastic Book Fair and the upcoming FUN Services Holiday Shop. PAWS appreciates the support of all who participated in these events, as the profits directly benefit all of our City Park Panthers!

Early Dismissal Day/ PAWS and Claus Pep Session

Friday, December 19 will be an early dismissal day.  Students will be released at 12:15 PM.  Please remember that there is no ASP on early dismissal days.

We will have our PAWS and Claus Pep Session at 9:00 AM on this date.  We will recognize our PAWSitive Panthers for December at this time.  Parents of those students being recognized will be invited to attend.  Entrance for this event will be through the GYM lobby.

5th Grade Spirit Fundraiser

Fifth grade will be selling holiday spirit items just in time for our PAWS and Claus Pep Session.  All items will be $1 and will be available before school during the week of December 15-19. We ask for cash only, small bills.

Counseling Corner

Encourage your child to notice needs. Each day, ask them to look for one small opportunity to help someone — holding a door, inviting a peer to play, giving a compliment, or simply listening. Compassion grows through practice, and even tiny acts can make a big impact.

Model compassion at home by letting your child see you respond gently to mistakes — theirs and your own. When frustration arises, take a breath, speak with patience, and reflect together on how everyone can feel supported. Children learn compassion best when they witness it in action.

Let’s work together to nurture caring hearts and a community where everyone feels seen, understood, and valued.

Cold Weather is Here!

As winter weather settles in, please remember to dress your child in layers and ensure they have appropriate clothing for outdoor recess (e.g., jackets, hats, gloves, etc).

It is a great idea to write your child’s name on all items!
