March is shaping up to be an exciting and celebration-filled month at City Park Elementary!
We’ll kick things off by celebrating Read Across America, encouraging our students to grow their love of reading and literacy with our Scholastic Book Fair. Throughout the month, we will also recognize Women’s History Month, highlighting the achievements and contributions of influential women past and present. In addition, we are proud to celebrate Music In Our Schools Month, honoring the important role music plays in our students’ education and creativity.
Our talented students will take the stage for our highly anticipated school play performance, and we can’t wait for our families to see their hard work come to life. We’re also cheering on our students as they represent City Park in the DPS Elementary Soccer Tournament.
To top it all off, we’ll host another exciting Paws and Applause Assembly, featuring special guests from Air Elite, who are sure to inspire and energize our students.
It’s a wonderful month to be a City Park Panther! Thank you for your continued support as we celebrate learning, leadership, the arts, and athletics together. |
PAWZ is excited to announce our Spring Book Fair will be here March 2-6!
You can browse books or shop early if you visit our school’s Book Fair homepage to get started:
https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/cityparkschool2
Be sure to explore the ewallet payment option, too. Easy for families to set up, easy for others to contribute, eWallet lets your child shop independently and choose books they want to read.
After the Fair, any unspent funds become a Scholastic eGift balance to use at a future Fair or to shop online.
The easy way for kids to pay!
Please remember that any money sent to school for the book fair should be placed in an envelope or ziploc bag with the student's full name, teacher, and amount written on the outside. Sales tax does apply to all purchases. |

Amira is a computer-based reading assessment and intervention program used to evaluate and support student reading development. It uses AI to listen as students read aloud, providing immediate feedback and personalized practice. For parents, Amira offers insights into a child's reading skills and progress, helping identify strengths and areas needing improvement. Students in grades K-3 will take the Amira assessment three times during the school year. The final assessment will be March 2-6. Please make sure your child is well rested, eats a healthy breakfast, and is at school on time.
This fall, our students also began taking DRC BEACON assessments in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics. Beacon is a through-year, formative interim assessment system designed to help teachers monitor progress and guide instruction throughout the school year.
K–3 students will participate in DRC BEACON Early Years Math, which provides important information to monitor growth.
Grades 4–5 students will participate in DRC BEACON for Reading and Math, which is directly aligned to Georgia standards and helps teachers identify strengths and areas needing more support. Testing Dates
Grades 4 & 5 Reading → March 4 and 5 Grades 1–5 Math → March 10 and 11
Beacon is not a high-stakes test—it is a valuable tool that helps teachers better understand student learning and provide the right support at the right time. Because Beacon uses the same online platform and tools as Georgia Milestones, it also helps prepare students for the end-of-year summative assessment. To help your child do their best, please make sure they are well rested, eat a healthy breakfast, and arrive on time during the testing window. |
PAWSitive Panther Trait of the Month – Creativity
This month, we are celebrating Creativity! Creativity is the ability to think in new and original ways, solve problems with flexible thinking, and express ideas through art, writing, discussion, and play. When students practice creativity, they strengthen critical thinking skills, build confidence, and learn that there is often more than one way to approach a challenge.
Parent Tips: Encourage open-ended play (drawing, building, storytelling) without focusing on perfection.
Ask questions like, “What’s another way you could solve that?” or “What else could this be?” Limit screen time occasionally and provide simple materials (paper, crayons, recycled items) for imaginative exploration.
Educator Tips: Offer choice in assignments (poster, paragraph, video, skit). Praise effort and original thinking rather than just correct answers. Incorporate brain breaks that involve drawing, movement, or creative problem-solving challenges. By nurturing creativity at school and at home, we empower students to become flexible thinkers and confident problem-solvers! |
