Beacon Testing Continues

Students in Grades 1-5 will continue with Beacon testing this upcoming week.

🗓 Testing Dates

  • Grades 1–5 Math → September 15–17

Beacon is not a high-stakes test—it is a valuable tool that helps teachers better understand student learning and provide the right support at the right time.

Because Beacon uses the same online platform and tools as Georgia Milestones, it also helps prepare students for the end-of-year summative assessment.

✅ To help your child do their best, please make sure they are:

City Park Celebrates Dot Day

This week, Mr. D and his students began transforming City Park into our very own Obliteration Room! Inspired by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama’s famous interactive art installation, our completely white space is coming to life one colorful dot at a time.

Ms. Rhyne joined Mr. D to place the very first dots, and over the next two weeks, every class will get the chance to leave their “mark” on this collaborative masterpiece.

You’ll be able to see the final creation at our Family Literacy Night on Thursday, September 18! Families will also receive a special City Park commemorative sticker (pictured here) as we celebrate our theme for the night — Create Bravely.

We can’t wait for you to experience this unique art installation and celebrate creativity together!

Remember to stop by the outdoor Dot Day Display, too, for a photo! It's on the corner of Judd Terrace and Walnut Avenue near the Walgreens!

Counseling Corner

Being responsible also means taking care of yourself! Here are some wellness tips to help students stayhealthy and focused this school year:

  • Get enough sleep: Aim for 9-11 hours each night to feel rested andready to learn.

  • Eat a balanced breakfast: Fuel your body with nutritious food to start your day strong.

  • Stay active: Physical activity helps your brain stay sharp and your mood positive.

  • Take breaks: Short breaks during homework or studying can help your focus.

  • Ask for help: It’s responsible to speak up if you’re feeling overwhelmed or confused.

Student Council Election This Week on Constitution Day!

The fourth and fifth grade student council election campaign has been in full swing! Candidates have been creating and displaying posters around the school. On Wednesday, September 17, they will make a campaign speech to their homeroom class. The election will follow immediately after with results being announced at the end of the day. Each homeroom class in fourth and fifth grade will elect two representatives.

PAWS is excited that the election coincides perfectly with Constitution Day on September 17 which is the day our country's Constitution was signed.

The newly elected representatives will be recognized on Friday, September 19 at our PAWS and Applause Pep Session!

Spirit Days

PAWS will host two different spirit days this week in honor of the DHS Homecoming! On Tuesday, September 16, The Artistic Civic Theater is hosting a day of performances for elementary school students all over the Northwest Georgia area! City Park students will enjoy a special live performance of Junie B. Jones the Musical.

PAWS is asking all City Park students in grades K-5 to come dressed in their theater best for this exciting experience right here on our campus!

Friday, September 19 is a RED OUT DAY—students are encouraged to wear red from head to toe.

To help everyone get decked out in red, our 5th graders will be selling red spirit items all week long and at Family Night!

Everything is just $1 each. Look for the Spirit Cart before school and during Family Night to grab your gear.

Let’s flood our halls, the pep session, and the DHS Homecoming Parade with Panther Pride and Big Red spirit!
