September is Library Card Sign up Month at the Public Library

Our public library is more than books — it’s a place for free programs, quiet study space, online resources, and endless opportunities to learn and explore.

And the best part? Every Dalton Public Schools student gets a FREE library card! Thanks to our partnership with the North Georgia Regional Library System, the PLAY Card gives students access to books, audiobooks, e-books, databases, and more — anytime, anywhere.

📚 Growing Responsible Readers
This month, we’re focusing on the character trait of responsibility — and caring for books is a great way to practice! Here are a few ways families can help at home:

✅ Pick a Safe Spot: Choose a special place at home where library books stay when not being read.
✅ Handle with Care: Show children how to turn pages gently and keep books away from food, drinks, and pets.
✅ Make Reading a Routine: Set aside a daily reading time — even 10 minutes a day makes a big difference.
✅ Return on Time: Help your child remember library days and return books promptly.
✅ Praise Responsibility: When you notice your child taking care of their books, celebrate it!

By practicing responsibility with books, students learn to value reading and respect shared materials — building habits that help them grow as readers and community members.
